Minister for Finance aligns with Ibec on substance of the Irish business model
Yesterday, the Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe, TD delivered the Ibec Lecture on “The new, New Economy”. The title and content reflects that the Government’s longer strategic intent is now aligning with Ibec’s campaign “Ireland: A Model of Substance” launched last year. This reflects the scale of intangible assets now driving strong economic growth in Ireland, whilst delivering resources in investment and for tax reform to help tackle quality of life challenges emerging due to insufficient infrastructure.
The messaging reflects the challenges Ireland’s business model faces internationally especially around the traditional intangible asset that is goodwill. The Minister’s speech is seminal as it reflects a nascent stage in our economic development to ensure that Ireland has both substance and sustainability. I’m including a link to a short podcast https://ibec.sharefile.com/d-s6cf61c18abc49649 I did with the Minister after his speech which will brief you on this messaging. This is also the theme for Ibec’s Business Leaders Conference on March 27thdetails of which are available here www.ibecconference.ie
Further content to support the communication of “Ireland: a model of substance” is available at www.ibec.ie/irishsubstance
Next month I, along with Ibec President Edel Creely, will bring the campaign to Washington DC for a series of roundtable events with business representative bodies including the US Chamber, National Association of Manufacturers, ITI, GlobalWin as well as senior US Government officials and political representatives. I will also use the visit as a platform to launch a new Ibec publication for the campaign “Win-win, Ireland and the US”. Please drop me a line if you would like to engage with Ibec on our US outreach, it is always good to hear from you.
