Better Lives, Better Business: Making Ireland a better place to live and work
With senior business leaders, politicians and media in attendance, Ibec launched Better Lives, Better Business, in Cork this week. This is a new national campaign to support business attract and retain talent by making Ireland a better place to live and work.
Under the Government’s Project 2040, Cork is set to become the fastest-growing city in the State over the next 20 years and is a prime example of the need for investment across housing, infrastructure, planning and sustainability. Better Lives, Better Business aims set to out a range of policy measures to government, media and other stakeholders to ensure that they are understood and implemented. The launch also marked the publication of a major report "Better Housing: improving affordability and supply", co-authored by Ibec and Property Industry Ireland (PII).
The latest Ibec podcast was recorded live at the launch at Páirc Uí Chaoimh and features some of Cork's leading industry figures including Mairead Dunne (Abbvie), Kevin Cullinane (Cork Airport) and a detailed interview with Michael O'Flynn (Flynn Group) discussing quality of life challenges facing Cork and in particular some solutions to deal with supply and affordability of housing. You can listen to the podcast here.
Next step for the campaign is a substantial lobbying and communications effort and the team at Ibec will continue to unveil new recommendations under infrastructure, planning and sustainability and to bring a strong regional focus to our work. Ibec Cork Regional President James Winters featured in the Irish Examiner this week to detail the key asks of this campaign for Cork. Read his opinion piece here.
